Beach Bum-o-rama

It's that time of year again! Last Wednesday Aunt Linda, Laura, Gramma Rowe & I headed down to Port Aransas for our annual stay at Port Royal. We enjoyed our usual activities which included riding the ferry, buying shrimp from a shrimp boat, riding horses on the beach, and best of all soaking up the sun! This year the sun was in short supply, and the beach wasn't in it's best form, but we still had a great time doing whatever the heck we wanted!

One day we went down to the National Seashore and walked along part of the 72 mile stretch of un-developed beach. It was pretty, and we were on the lookout for the endangered Ripley sea turtles who are in nesting season right now, but we weren't lucky enough to see any this time! There was a cool gift shop where we got to play with lots of sea-things and learn about marine life in the National Seashore area.

Thursday afternoon we headed to a ranch on Mustang Island to ride horses on the beach. We did pretty well, only a few hiccups like Laura's horse kicking mine, and dogs running onto the beach causing our horses to spook and gallop in various directions. Here's Laura and I with our horses, she rode Diamond and I rode Conduit. Conduit did NOT love walking in the water, but I got him to wet his feet a few times.

This picture shows what most of the beach looked like, covered in sea weed and LOTS of washed up jellyfish! It left less space for us to play in the sand, but we still enjoyed a few good walks in the water and had a good collection of shells by the end of our trip.

Friday we went out on a jetty to see if there were good fishing spots for Linda & Laura to go back and fish the next day. We walked over giant granite boulders almost a mile out into the sea and finally reached the end where we had a great view of a herd of cranes, and a school of dolphins that were playing and feeding! We got soaked by the huge waves coming in, but enjoyed watching the water and all that lives in it!

It was a great trip, and I can't wait to get back next year, hopefully with a little bit warmer weather! Thanks Gramma for making our fun possible!

I still can't believe we were there only a week before you! Ava and I would have LOVED to play with you. She had a great time destroying other people's sand castles (sorry kiddos!)I am craving Sarah time! Let's do something fun soon!
