My First Blog Award!

OMG!! I have to thank first and foremost my Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, my parents, my roommate, and of COURSE my dog....SIKE! I'm SO not going to give a cheesy speech, but I do have to thank the amazing L. Borrego over at Let Me Put This In Perspective for You for giving me my first blogger award! I have to say I don't really consider myself to be a serious blogger, but I do enjoy sharing the things I enjoy. So thanks friend!

OK, so apparently there are some contingencies with this award:
1. Thank the person who nominated you for this award

2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.

3. Link to the person who nominated you for this award.

4. Name 7 things about yourself that people might not know.

5. Nominate 7 Kreativ Bloggers.

6. Post links to the 7 blogs you nominate.

7. Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know they have been nominated.

So 7 things about me…
1. I absolutely CANNOT and WILL NOT eat meat that is still on the bone. It reminds me too much of what the animal looked like as a live being, and it makes me nauseous. Also if I ever discover a vein or 'grist' in the meat on my plate I call it quits. All white meat, with no traces of animal please. Maybe just maybe I'll end up being a vegetarian...

2. I LOVE to organize! I almost went into the field of professional organizing after college when I thought I'd have a hard time getting a Child Life internship. Luckily my internship worked out and I'm not organizing other people's trash for a living. However I still love coming home on a Sunday afternoon and getting lost in my closet, pantry or craft room putting things in order and making them look neat. It delights me to no end.

3. I love the Cyrus family. Maybe this is not a shocker to some of you, and maybe some of you think I should keep this to myself, but I will not. I am a proud Miley fan and even have Billy Ray's newest single which is super cheesy but manages to put me in a good mood every time it comes up in my iTunes shuffle. Let's hope this family can keep their pop star kids from becoming crazy Hollywood party people...I have such hopes!

4. I regularly mourn my childhood. Not in a 'I hate being a grown up and I refuse to act my age' kind of way, but more like I think about my childhood all the time and feel very lucky to have such a great family that made growing up so fun. I can't imagine going back to that time if I had the chance because it would mean no sister in laws and no nieces, but sometimes I think it'd be SO fun to go back and see my family under the same roof, fighting over the Fruity Pebbles and TV remote.

5. I'm a little bit OCD in that I cannot get in the shower until my room is completely clean. It doesn't matter how late I may be running, I have to come out of the shower into a clean environment or I don't feel like the shower was worth it.

6. I would love to get into photography. I'm thinking start with a local digital photography class, get a really good camera, and eventually make it a side business. We'll see how this plan develops...
Also on my list is cake decorating. When I can find time to be home on a consistent basis I'm going to Michael's to sign up for the Wilton class. This skill seems so practical to me, and I would have so much fun decorating something that's also yummy!!

7. I'm currently re-learning how to play the piano. Last year when I moved into my house my parents gifted me the piano I grew up playing and this week I started with a schedule of practicing 30 minutes a day 4 times a week. Current music on my practice list includes songs from the 1965 Baptist Hymnal I scored on e-bay, and the amazing N'sync and Backstreet sheet music I bought back in the day when I was obsessed...SO FUN!

So the lucky bloggers I pass this award on to are:
Drumroll please....

1. Jessica at The Rowe Crew She is so creative in so many ways, and of course posts super cute pictures of my super cute nieces!
2. Gina at The G Rowes Another personal fave due to the pictures of my niece, but I love the fact that Gina adds videos for us to watch as Ava grows!
3. Kasey at Day By Day She keeps it real and makes me laugh! She's also got some mad bow making skills, so if you're in need for a baby girl in your life give her a holler!
4. Elyse at Simply Squibb for keeping us in the loop on her pregnancy and her husbands ministry!
5. Working Girl 1 and Working Girl 2 at Working Girl These girls remind me I'm not alone on the days I hate my job, have a difficult co-worker or question if I'm in the right job. My favorite to read during my 4PM coffee break :)

Yeah I know that's only 5 and I'm supposed to tag 7, but like I said, I'm not all that involved in the blog world so I'm a little short on numbers...no biggie!

Color Tease

I'm in the process of decorating yet another room of my house. I won't post pictures until it's complete, but since that might be a few weeks I'll leave you with this hint of color that I put up on the walls today. Happy fall!

Bad Haircuts Happen

For the past two weeks my roommate and I have been feeling pretty sorry for ourselves after an impulse trip to get our hair done at Tony and Guy. We should have known choosing to get our hair done was not an appropriate solution for boredom on a Friday night, but alas we found ourselves heading to the salon and unfortunately both walking out unhappy with our impulse do's.
Jenni was going for something Lauren Conrad-ish, and got a shorter uneven version of the pictures she showed the stylist.
I went in to even out the highlights I had that were about 3 inches grown out, aiming to get back to my 'natural' color.
I walked out with dark brown hair with heavy red tintage. Needless to say we've learned our lesson.
Yesterday Willow became a victim of the bad hair do club, after a trip to her local groomer. She was pretty furry when I dropped her off, and when I got her back she was anything but furry!
A before and after to explain:

So the next time I look in the mirror and feel like complaining about my brown hair, I'll remind myself to be grateful that my ears didn't get the chop.

Willow's 2nd Birthday!

FOREWORD: Laugh if you must, and make all the jokes you want, but until I have human children to plan parties for and celebrate with, events such as the one described below will just have to happen. End of story.

On September 3, 2009 (or somewhere near that day) my little Willow turned two!!! Since she's adopted I have no way of knowing exactly when she was born, so I picked a day and we celebrate each year like party animals! This year Willow and I sent e-vites to her two favorite friends, Manna and Baylor, and I planned like crazy!

I felt as many things as possible should coordinate with the fact that she was turning two, so the party was scheduled for 2 PM, two friends were invited, and I made two cakes.
The first cake was for the dogs attending, and it contained two ingredients...Willow's favorite canned IAMS Natural Chicken dinner and peanut butter. The second cake was for humans, and I went with a funfetti theme for lots of sprinkles and lots of color!

Being the toy obsessed creature she is, I got Willow two new toys for her gifts. Her friends were also so sweet to get her new toys as well, so after all was said and done she had 4 new toys, lots of chewees and cute fall bandanas to wear custom made by Karo!

Emmy was kind enough to help Willow open the gifts since tissue paper is a little scary to small dogs! She even blew out the candle since Willow doesn't have lips to make a blowing motion...thanks for your help Em!

Here are a few of my favorite photos from the party. Thanks family for putting up with my Willow obsession, and for coming to the party with your dogs and bringing Willow presents!

Everyone seemed to enjoy their cake, and no one growled over the last slice either!

Of course the most fun part of all was having everyone together to play!

Happy Birthday Willow!!!
