Day (or two) at the Design Center

Long overdue, but here goes anyway. It's been almost 5 weeks since I signed the contract on my house and the land is still empty and unmarked. However I snagged a sign from down the street and put it on my lot to take a picture. Showing:

As I was taking pictures of the wildflowers growing out there I noticed a little something scurry across the field. So I investigated and found a little friend! I told him we could be friends, but he had to find a new field to mouse around in once my house goes up.

The next day at work a kid came in the ER after being bitten by a field mouse. Guess it's a good thing I didn't try to pet the sucker.

So, the only thing I've done besides sign the contract to buy a house is going to the design center to pick out all my house stuff. And I mean ALL....I asked my old roommate from Baylor, Courtney Morgan to come along because she's an amazing interior designer and I knew she'd help me make it look good and like my style. I'm so glad she came!!! Also, Courtney and her mom designed and decorated the clubhouse in my neighborhood and did an awesome job! Of course mom wanted to come because she's so excited about the house, plus she has a little experience doing this when they built their house. Most importantly since she and Dad are majorly pimping my house, I wanted their help in choosing the right upgrades. It's all about the resale value kids!
So, I had my first 3 hour appointment on Cinco De Mayo, but refused to go until I had me some mexican food and a Pina Colada to commemorate one of my favorite holidays.

We had lunch at Gringo's (=YUM!) and then headed on to the design center. I tried to take pictures of everything we picked out but it was just so much and we only had 3 hours to do it all! So, I'll just list what the picture is and hopefully you'll get the idea. Far left is the exterior brick. The middle color is the trim paint color, as well as the garage door color. The right stone is an accent stone that will be used in the arches on my front window and a few other places on the outside front of the house.

Sorry about the glare, this is the garage door pattern. Quite simple.

I didn't get a good picture so I drove around the neighborhood and found ONE other house who had the same glass front door as I picked. It's got the Texas star, which you know I love.

Moving inside, this is the sample of the cabinets that will be throughout the house in the kitchen and bathrooms. They're 42 inch raised panel birch wood....I think. The granite is on the top, it's called UbaTuba and is a green with little gold flecks. Sic em!

In the middle you'll see the tile that will be throughout the house, and the granite again on the left. This tile will also be used in the backsplash in the kitchen, and you can see the accent stone that I picked to run through the middle of the backsplash. It's a slate and I love it! No, I'm not having wood floors, you just see them here in the picture because that's what was there at the design center.
I missed a picture of the carpet sample, but it's a frieze brown tone, and has a super cushy pad underneath it. The appliances are stainless steel, and so is the kitchen sink. I did a few energy efficiency upgrades because I want to be green, and I want to save my green money.
I'm sure there's a lot that I missed, so you'll have to come visit when it's done if you want to check it all out!

Thanks so much for your help Courtney! I can't wait to see your new place too, I'm sure it looks amazing!

Jenni came with me to the second appointment where I had to finalize a few things, and while we were waiting on paperwork to be done we had a little fun of our own in the model rooms. We were practicing being roommates so we'll be ready when the house is finished. Also, she won best friend of the day award because she was so patient and reassuring when I freaked out about how much everything costs!!! Sorry Jenni!!!!!!
